Trezor.io/Start® — Starting Up Your Device | Trezor®
A simple, secure walk-through to get your Trezor device ready. Follow each step carefully — security begins at setup.
Prepare your workspace
Clean surface: choose a private, well-lit area. Remove phones or cameras if you prefer extra privacy.
Unbox carefully: confirm the tamper-evident seal and packaging are intact before powering up.
Powering on & first connection
Connect to computer: use the official cable. Your computer will recognize the device and prompt you to visit Trezor.io/Start®.
Open the official start page: follow on-screen instructions — only use the official site for firmware and guidance.
Firmware and verification
Install firmware: if prompted, install the latest official firmware. This step secures your device with the newest protections.
Verify device: always confirm the device display matches the website confirmation code — this prevents man-in-the-middle tampering.
Create a new wallet (seed setup)
Generate recovery seed: the device will produce a recovery phrase — write it down on the provided card (or a steel backup).
Keep it offline: never store your recovery phrase digitally (photos, notes, cloud). Store the paper/steel backup in a secure place.
Set a PIN
Choose a strong PIN: the PIN protects access to the device. Use a memorized number that is not trivially guessable.
Tip: Trezor lets you enter the PIN using a randomized touchscreen layout displayed on your computer — that prevents keylogging attacks.
Install Trezor Suite (optional)
Trezor Suite: install the official app to manage accounts, send/receive crypto, and review transaction history. Always download from the official source.
Suite is helpful but optional — you can use compatible wallets or manage addresses directly while keeping your seed secure.
Security checklist
- Backup: store at least one copy of your recovery phrase in a different physical location.
- Never share seed: no support agent, friend, or website should ever ask for your recovery phrase.
- Verify addresses: confirm recipient addresses on the Trezor display before approving transactions.
Troubleshooting & support
If something looks off (unexpected firmware prompts, mismatched codes, or damaged packaging), disconnect and reach official support channels. Use only verified support links and documentation.
